-------------------Peyton's mother always knew her son was never going to stay in the sea. As much as she wished for her youngest son to stay by her side forever, Peyton had always shown an extra special interest in life above land.Though, unlike "The Little Mermaid", it was quite normal for merfolk to leave their aquatic homes for a life on land permanently.First this would cause her grief, but later in life it would become her greatest blessing.At the age of 14, his oldest brother would suddenly go missing. Four days after the Aquarius family realized something was wrong they got a letter. Peyton didnt read it himself, but from his mothers reaction he knew it was not a good one. The next day, a delivery would arrive at their home. Inside the box would be the scales of what once was his older brother.Three months later, when his baby sister went missing, his mother decided it was past due to tell them of the truth.Peytons father, who had left when he was just a little minnow, was actually pure human. This isnt completely unheard of, of course. Many merfolk who make their way to land fall in love and reproduce with humans, which would result in mermaid offspring. What made this important however, was how their parents met.Peytons Grandfather was a Rare Hunter. Rare Hunters were poachers who specialized in hunting and selling parts of supernatural beings across the globe. His Grandfathers specialty? Mermaids.In an attempt to teach his son the ways of the hunt, he would bring him along to show him how it was done. Peyton's father had no interest, but one night he fell off their boat and was knocked unconscious by the rocks where Peytons mother found and saved him.She nursed him back to health and they fell in love, having five kids together. Peyton the second youngest to his little sister.But before his younger sister was born, his father stopped visiting the bay where he would always meet with his family. He left no letters. He was never seen again.Peyton's mother told her kids that her father in law found out about their family, and took their father away for good, and was now hunting them down as punishment.But when Peyton found and read the letter that his mother hid away when his brother passed he could have sworn that was his father's handwriting.In an attempt to prevent any of her last three children from suffering the same fate, Peytons mother took advantage of her sons love for human life and sent him to explore the life he adored so much.And thus, Peyton Aquarius begun his life on land at the age of 22, where he began college (thanks to the help of some other merfolk on land providing him with the right documents), enjoying the young life of a boy who's always found by the water.He knows it is only a matter of time before his father realizes he is on land. He will have to do something soon.
Mer Life FAQ'S...-Merfolk have two forms; one for land and one for the ocean.
-Merfolk surface on land quite often. It is necessary for them to be in their humanoid forms for things like reproduction.
-The Color of a mer persons tail has a direct correlation to their societal status. The cooler color the tail, the higher up the ladder. Purple being for the Royal family, then to the blues, then greens, reds, oranges and then yellows.
-White tails only exist in the gods and goddesses of the sea
-Black tails do not exist, it is said that if you ever see a mer person with a black tail that you have seen death.
-Sirens are the cousins of the Merfolk, and while most interactions are neutral, Merfolk are taught at a young age to steer clear from them due to tensions from what they call "The War of an Eon".
-Since Merfolk must be in their humanoid form to procreate, it is possible for a mermaid to be impregnated by a human. It is also possible for a human to be impregnated by a merman, but the chances of the child and mothers survival are slim to none.
-If impregnated by a human, the offspring will most likely be a mer person. There is an extremely rare (but not unheard of) chance that they may be just human. Half-ling merfolk do not exist due to the similar genetics between both species; it is either one or the other.-It is not impossible for mermen to be impregnated. There once was a species of menfolk who were directly related to seahorses known as Hippocampi. Though over thousands of years of interbreeding with traditional sea menfolk, there aren't any full Hippocampi anymore. Their genetics still exist in current day menfolk and while uncommon it is not unheard of.-Since merfolk need to be on land to reproduce, Poseidon gifted them with hormones that will help them identify significant moon cycles. This is how they know when tides make land ideal for reproduction. This results in something similar to a 'heat' or 'rut' though it is not about specific as that does not exist in mer-life. It is simply a wildly increased libido and arousal and usually lasts 1-3 days.-Merfolk who come to land must bath in the ocean in their true form every few days in order to avoid extreme sickness from lack of saltwater in their systems-Merfolk with certain status's have what's called "The Mark of the Ancestors" Which is a lined pattern wrapping around their body telling the story of the line of ancestors they follow. The first line begins right under your jaw, then for every generation passed down, another line is wrapped around their body. When in merform, the tattoo will surface and glow a faint gold color. When in human form, the marks fade depending on how long you've been in human form, looking like faded tattoos.-Peyton has lines down to just blow the breast bone.-The "Mark of the Ancestor" is imprinted on a mermaids body slowly as they get older, telling the tale of their life as it goes until they pass away. It begins when you turn 18, and you are also given your "True Name".-Peyton's True name is Zale Aquarius.

Additional Facts About Peyton
-Peyton has a variety of abilities, some include manipulating and freezing water (think waterbenders), or sing melodies that can manipulate people to a certain degree like old pirates tales.-Peyton is actually a horrible swimmer in human form. He isnt good at adjusting to using his legs-When he shifts from form to form he is engulfed in a 'moonlight' that is actually considerably bright, which is why he usually shifts behind rocks or away from others as to not blind any viewing eyes.-Contrary to media, mermaids do not actually wear seashells as bras. Most mermen and women wear clothing that is most similar to chainmail made from various shells and or metals as well as woven with sea plants and other oceanic items. (they dont wear anything on their tail)-Peyton used to have extremely long hair before he came to land. which is typical for mermaids. It was almost always braided and would even reach about his waist.-Before starting college Peyton had to take a two month seminar about how to use electronics from another mermaid who has been living on land-TW ; Rape, Beastallity ?
Mermaids have to be careful around dolphins. While most time they are wonderful to play around with in the water there is a known number of mermaids who have been sexually assaulted by them.-Peyton is about 223 years old! (He tells people he is 23)-Peyton is a saltwater merman, Freshwater mermaids tend to be considerably smaller and much more mischievous-Most upperclass merfolk are trained in some sort of combat. This usually involves a combination of magic and weapons. Peyton is trained with spears and is preferable to the trident.-He wears a necklace that is fused with magic that will summon his trident with a certain siren song.

The Mark of the Ancestors
Thousands of years ago, after the "War of an Eon" against the siren race, Poseidon bestowed upon King Alon a token of memorial for brining peace to the god's beloved waters. Deeply embedded into his skin was was a tattoo like pattern across his neck, just below his jaw. In the salt water it shimmered, and glowed as if harnessing its own light."Wear this marking proudly, and may your kin forever more tell your story upon their flesh.
On the night before their coming of age, they will close their eyes and see how bravely and cleverly you calmed the seas in the name of Poseidon.When they awaken, they will bear your markings, and your children markings, and your children's children's marks.They will no longer know their own name, but be reborn anew, called upon in a new name given by myself so that they know I will always be watching over them.Upon you my blessing."Now, the direct line of descendants bear the markings of the brave king, followed by their individual family tree. Almost one fourth of all merpeople bear the markings.Peyton's mother Aoi was one of those very descendants.
